This Privacy Policy explains what data While Reader processes, why it is processed, and how that data is used when you use the desktop application, the payment flow, and the licensing service.

1. Local Reading Data

Your imported books, bookmarks, reading progress, preferences, and local library metadata are stored on your device. While Reader is designed to keep reading content local unless you explicitly use a network feature such as the web importer, payment flow, update checks, or online activation.

2. Device and License Data

While Reader uses a device identifier for trial issuance, activation, deactivation, and device limit enforcement. The licensing service may process:

• license keys or trial certificates
• device identifiers used for activation and unbinding
• activation status, issuance timestamps, and expiry timestamps

3. Payment Data

Payments are processed by third-party providers such as Stripe and Afdian. While Reader does not receive or store your full payment card details. The licensing service may process payment session identifiers in order to confirm successful payment and issue a license.

4. Email Delivery

If a payment provider supplies an email address and email delivery is enabled, the licensing service may send your license key or payment confirmation through an email delivery provider. That means an email address may be processed for order fulfillment and support.

5. Update Checks and Downloads

Direct-download versions of While Reader may contact the official update endpoint to check whether a newer version is available. If you choose to download an update, the installer package will be downloaded from the official release endpoint.

6. Web Importer and External Sites

If you use the built-in web importer, While Reader loads third-party websites that you choose. Those sites operate under their own privacy policies and terms. Downloads triggered from those sites may be imported into your local library if they match supported file types.

7. Sharing and Service Providers

Data may be processed by service providers that support payment, license delivery, update hosting, or email delivery. While Reader does not sell your personal information.

8. Retention

Local reading data remains on your device until you delete it. License and activation records may be retained by the licensing service for fraud prevention, device limit enforcement, customer support, and compliance.

9. Your Choices

• You can avoid online activation and payment features by staying on the free tier.
• You can remove local reading data by deleting the app data or uninstalling without keeping data.
• You can request support by contacting the publisher.
